History
Since their inception in 1955, "The Del-Vikings", continue to rise above the seemingly non-stop process of change with numerous twists, turns, and detours along the way.
The "Del-Vikings", the first racially integrated group in Rock 'n' Roll history, formed in Pittsburgh, PA and consisted of active-duty members of The United States Air Force. Radio DJ's consistently said that The "Del-Vikings" put the "D in Doo-Wop" and they became so successful that The Air Force allowed them to appear on the Ed Sullivan Show, only after they agreed to help with military recruiting efforts.
Their biggest hit that peaked at #5 on the Billboard 100 Chart, came in 1957 with "Come Go With Me", which google lists as the #1 Doo-Wop song of all time, sold over a million copies , and was featured in the films, "American Graffiti", "Diner", "Stand By Me", "Joe Versus the Volcano", and "Set It Up". This success set the tone for the song to be listed #447 on Rolling Stones Top 500 Songs of all time!
After many personnel changes, subtle name changes, legal battles and two groups with the same name, "The Dell-Vikings" (note the spelling) released, "Whispering Bells" (another million seller) which peaked at #5 on the R&B charts and #9 on the Pop chart. It was also featured in the film, "Stand By Me". Having sung with many talented artists over the years and despite all of the twists and turns, "The Del-Vikings" were inducted into The Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2005.
